Stewardship
Stewardship is what we do after we say we believe.
It is an expression of our discipleship – in following Jesus we
become caretakers and trustees of his many gifts.
~Bishop R. Morneau
Lumen Christi is actively answering the call of a stewardship. As individuals
we listen and sometimes accept the invitation to share our time, talent
and treasure. We invite and encourage each member of our community to
actively join us in our quest to become closer to God.
True stewardship is not just putting extra money in an envelope, or serving
on a parish committee or parish ministry. It is much deeper than that.
A good steward understands humbly that all they are and all they possess
is a gift. Good stewards realized that they cannot equal God’s generosity.
The more they give, the more God gives in return. True stewardship comes
from within and as such is a way of life which includes caring for ourselves
physically, emotionally and spiritually. As God’s children and as
an outpouring of this respect for ourselves, stewardship calls us to care
for each other: our families, friends and those in our community.
Becoming a true steward of our Lord requires prayer, meditation, trust
and time. It calls us to reassess our priorities and to make adjustments
in the importance we place on things. It affects every aspect of our family,
work and spiritual life. The benefits of a stewardship lifestyle are many.
Perhaps the greatest benefit is knowing we have added value to another’s
life through our own actions. Small gestures take on great meaning and
give great reward when applied with love in the spirit of Jesus Christ.
Everything that we have on this earth is a gift from God. Because we
love God, we gladly dedicate these gifts to God's service. We seek no
"rewards" for our stewardship; we do it with the joy of serving
God.
Time
God has given us life, but we do not know how much time we have to use
this gift of life. Therefore we must use our time here on earth sensibly
in every activity throughout the day.
Talent
The Bible tells us that if we use our talents wisely, we will be better
able to use them and will develop others -- but if we don't we may lose
even those talents we do have.
Treasure
Giving money to the Church is a symbolic act - - the offering of ourselves
in service and devotion to God. Giving is a practical matter, too, because
the offering makes it possible for the Church to pay its bills and carry
out its mission in Christ's name.
