Parish Commissions -
Catholic Formation

The Catholic Formation Commission develops, oversees, and evaluates all formational and educational ministries and programs of the parish, including the joint Child and Youth Catholic Formation program of Lumen Christi Congregation.

ADULT FORMATION

Women's Circle of Faith (WCOF)
All women of the parish are members of the Women's Circle of Faith, and receive an annual newsletter and weekly bulletin updates. The Board members hope that all women will consider becoming active and share in the mission to build a faith community focused on spiritual support, parish and community service, and motivating social activities. The WCOF Board plans a variety of large gatherings throughout the year, provides service opportunities, coordinates parishioner support, and assists numerous special interest circles. The Board meets the first Wednesday of each month in the Lumen Christi Mequon Parish Library. For more information, please contact either Linda Bergemann at 262-243-5930 or Alison Keenan at 414-351-1066. For further questions you can call Terri Schiller at 262-512-8985 or email her at schillert@lumenchristiparish.org

Adult Evening Bible Study
The Bible Study Group encourages a closer relationship with God through the study of His Word. The Old and New Testament books are covered in alternate years. Meetings are held from September through May from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM in the Matthew Room of the Lumen Christi Mequon Parish Center. For more information, please contact Al Trenshaw at 242-1269 or arst_10@msn.com.

Baptism Preparation Classes
Baptism Preparation classes are held six times a year. Parents anticipating the Baptism of a child should register to attend. Contact Kathy Shields at (262) 512-2922 or kshields36@aol.com.

Business Wakeup
Without the daily efforts of business managers, the very fabric of our own lives would come apart. Without their commitment to integrity and faithful, responsible management, the very foundations of our common life would be threatened. Producing and distributing the goods and services we need to make our way as modern, complex communities is a vocation of stewardship within the human family. We invite those who work to join us every first and third Wednesday of the month from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM in the St. Luke's Room of the Lumen Christi Mequon Parish Center to discuss the Sunday Gospels as it relates to our daily jobs. Please contact Ray Schneider at 242-6568 or ray@kingshead.org for more information.

Catholics Returning Home
Catholics Returning Home is a ministry whose purpose is to invite inactive Catholics, alienated Catholics and Catholics with questions about their faith to consider a return to the practice of their Catholic Faith. This ministry involves a 6 (six) session, six-week process in which participants are invited to share their faith experiences...good and bad...with other participants. A small group of compassionate listeners from the parish facilitate these sessions. Leaders from our Church reintroduce the participants to the following areas: "The Changes in the Church", "What Catholics Believe," "The Mass," and "Sin and Reconciliation." This process is offered three times per year; after Christmas, after Easter and in early September. Contact John Schoonenberg at 262-242-3459 or email him at rails@execpc.com.

Marriage Preparation Ministry
Married couples are needed to help prepare engaged couples for the Sacrament of Matrimony by administering the FOCCUS Pre-marriage Inventory and discussing the results with the couple. This is great way to share one’s faith as a couple and the wisdom and insight that come with years of being married. Time commitment: meet with three or four engaged couples a year. Training is provided. Please contact the parish office (262) 242-7967.

Parish Library-Lumen Christi Mequon
The library contains books, cassette tapes and videos covering a variety of subjects for the adults of the parish. Materials are available to assist parishioners with contemporary problems and their spiritual journey. Detail-oriented volunteers are needed to staff the library once or twice a month for 15-30 minutes after the 8:00 AM or the 11:00 AM Sunday Mass. No meetings are required!

Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA)
Since 1988, the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) is the mandatory process by which new members are welcomed into the Roman Catholic Church. “The RCIA is designed for adults who, after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God and enter the way of faith and conversion as the Holy Spirit opens their hearts.”

Vocations
The Vocation Information Center is located in the foyer of the Parish Center in Mequon. It was created to build awareness for the necessity of prayer to discern one’s own vocation and to pray for those who are discerning a church vocation. For more information, please contact Bob Fornero at 262-238-8889.

CHILD MINISTRY

For the following information, please call Joan Kress, Associate Director for Child Ministry, at (262) 512-8984 or e-mail at kressj@lumenchristiparish.org.

Catechist/Co-Catechist/Substitute Catechist
A catechist is a person who does the “academic” work of Catholic Formation. This person teaches a particular class throughout the school year (about 21 classes) using the provided textbook and other resources as guides. All lesson plans and materials are provided. A co-catechist is a catechist who alternates classes with another catechist. This can be done by teaching every other class, every other semester. A Substitute Catechist “subs” for catechists when they are unable to teach.

Child Ministry Committee
This committee, which meets six to ten times a year, plans projects and provides input to the Associate Director for Child Ministry on topics of related interest.

YOUTH CATECHETICAL MINISTRY

Help With Mailings
General mailings are sent several times a year, and there is a need for volunteers to stuff envelopes. This activity is perfect for those with busy schedules!

TEEN FORMATIONAL MINISTRY

Summer Outreach Adult Leaders
Since 1992, Outreach has been a summer service project for high school students. Students and adult leaders meet throughout the school year to learn about the purpose of service as the Gospel’s call to justice. Teens prepare spiritually while fundraising and learning that serving one another is fun! Weeklong service projects are held throughout summer vacation in areas such as Milwaukee, Chicago, the Twin Cities, South Dakota, Appalachia, and Jamaica. Each service project promises a rewarding experience for the volunteers and for the many people whose lives they touch. Adult leaders are needed!

Confirmation Catechist
This is a volunteer ministry that helps guide and educate our 11th grade Confirmation candidates as they prepare to receive the sacrament. Catechists meet approximately twice per month on Sunday evenings with their small groups in their home. Catechists also attend periodic in-service training to be better equipped to teach the curriculum.

Driver – Social & Service Events
Youth ministry always needs volunteer drivers to transport youths to field trips, events, and conferences, and to transport teens to various volunteer sites. A good driving history is required.

Open Gym Supervisor
Youth Ministry opens the gym doors periodically in the evenings so that area youth can play basketball or volleyball. We need volunteers to be responsible for safe, fun play. Volunteers will be responsible for opening and closing the gym and for chaperoning youth in attendance. Please contact Carol Roltgen at (262) 242-7978 or roltgenc@lumenchristiparish.org.

Retreat Chaperones
Christian Formation operates a multitude of retreats for 6th – 12th graders. These retreats are usually one or two overnight faith and discussion events. The rewards for this type of participation are tremendous!
